making motocross bike street legal?
i own a 2004 KF250F and im thinking about converting it to a street legal dual sport type motorcycle to ride on the road. its a motocrosser so it has no battery and therefore no way of powering lights, would i have to install a battery somewhere? also it has a performance racing pipe which would be way over the allowed db for a street legal pipe.
heres the bike:

what would be all the requirements in order for me to get my bike to be street legal? would it be way to much and take too much effort?
i knew i was forgetting something. i live in canada ontario.
To be street legal the bike has to have a headlight, taillight, brakelight, horn, mirror, and DOT approved tires.
If money is no object, you can buy an enduro conversion kit that has everything you need.
If you are doing this on a budget, you have other options. If you can afford it, you can get an ignition system that has a lighting coil; and that way you won’t have to have a battery and you have constant power for your lights & accessories. If you can’t afford the ignition system, get a small battery and find a place to mount it. But with the battery you will always have to keep it charged and you won’t be able to use your lights & accessories much. Buy an enduro headlight and taillight. For the brakelight, buy a brakelight switch for a 1970s bike, such as a Yamaha DT 250, Honda CL 350, Kawasaki KE 100, Suzuki TS 185, etc. That brakelight switch mounts to the frame above the brake pedal and is connected to the brake pedal by a spring. Get an L-shaped bracket and drill a hole the size of the brakelight switch into it. Screw the brakelight switch into the L-shape bracket. Fasten the L-shaped bracket against the frame tube with a hose clamp. Drill a 1/16 inch hole into the side of the brake pedal. Connect the spring from the brakelight switch into the hole you drilled into the brake pedal. For a horn, get something small and loud that won’t require many amps. A back-up alarm like whats on construction equipment works well. For a mirror you can get an enduro mirror that mounts to the handlebars and can be folded down while riding off-road. Or you can go to the store and by a bicycle mirror and mount it to the handlebars. For tires, get some DOT knobbies, such as Kenda K760 Trackmaster or Bridgestone ED04.
You can buy all the parts from a mail-order wholesaler, such as Dennis Kirk Company. Check out www.denniskirk.com
Once you have installed all the equipment to make your bike street-legal, go to your local BMV and follow their instructions for tittling & licensing your bike. They usually make you have your bike inspected by a police officer or an official to make sure your bike is fully street-legal.
