First Motorcycle tips on what to look for?

I’ve recently obtained an interest in motorcycles but to be honest I’m pretty ignorant on what’s what and what to look for when buying one. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on which company’s make the best bikes and which bike would be good for a first time buyer.
I’m more interested in sports bikes and this one caught my eye

Any of the big names you can’t go wrong.

Suzuki
Honda
Kawasaki
Triumph (although not sure if the do any 125)

I Started of a 125 suzuki marauder it was slow and like a vibrator on wheels!

If you buy second hand bike obviously look for something with low millage, and buy from a store that way you will know that it has been giving a good once over.
If new then obviously this doesn’t really matter.
The unfortunate thing about sports bikes is although they are usually quicker it means the insurance is is higher.
If you went for a 2 stroke 125 cruiser you could still reach 70-80 mph but the insurance would be cheaper plus they are a bit more comfortable.

In England you can do something called a direct entry which means you can start on any bike providing your over 21 perhaps look at something like this providing your over 21.
