Do the valves need to be adjusted every 4000k on a 07 honda shadow 600cc?

I’m asking this because the dealer has told me that every 4k I need to take it in for service and they need to check the valves and is very costly. It cost about $200 per maintenance

I honestly haven’t worked on many Shadows… mostly sportbikes… but I have yet to run across any motorcycle, regardless of design, that requires 4,000 mile valve adjustment intervals. I’d suspect either there was a miscommunication, or the service manager was a bit confused.

Factory service manuals are available to motorcycle owners… simply call up the dealership & order one (there are other sources). If you’re mechanically inclined, it’ll guide you through both basic & advanced tasks. Even if you’re not, it will at least give you a heads-up on what service is recommended when, and what’s involved in most service jobs.

Personally, however, I recommend everyone learn to care for and maintain their motorcycle – at least the simple stuff. And the factory manual is the first place to start.
